Objective

The main objective is to establish a dialogue on operational approaches for the building of sustainable cities in Latin America. It seeks to transcend the rhetoric of sustainable urban development to address four central themes of an operational agenda. A secondary objective is to contribute to establishing national and local dialogues on sustainable urban development. An expected outcome is that the dialogue initiated in this activity help to deepen the necessary actions for the construction of specific actions towards sustainable urban development in Latin America, involving key stakeholders, such as urban planners, decision makers from the public and private sector, scientists, and international organizations.

Four experts and one moderator will participate in the dialogue. All with expertise in the topic of sustainable cities in Latin America, but each of them with particular experience in one of the four thematic axes to be addressed during the dialogue. Each of the experts will introduce in 5 minutes the most relevant aspects of their theme and will open the floor to the other experts with specific interventions. After a round of interventions by the experts, the floor will be opened to participants. Each thematic axis will have 15 minutes of dialogue to leave time at the end for the conclusions most relevant to the design of operational approaches for the construction of sustainable cities in Latin America in the 21st century.

Expected participants in this session: urban planners, decision makers from the public and private sectors, scientists, students and representatives from the civil society.
