Funded Research2008-2010 Landuse change, biofuels and rural development in the La Plata Basin 2008-2009 An assessment of research and institutional needs to cope with the effects of climate change on Andean biodiversityFunded by: John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. USD 450,000 Science ProgramsActive Programs (2006-2011)
2006 - 2011 Collaborative Research Network Program II (CRN): 13 projects are funded under this program. Following CRN I, the program continues to promote research cooperation and exchange of information in an integrated way through interdisciplinary studies and international networks involving at least 4 countries in each project. Click here to read articles from the IAI Newsletter describing all 13 CRN II projects, here to access project homepages or here to access project factsheets. 2007 - 2009 Small Grant Program for the Human Dimensions (SGP-HD): 6 projects were selected to be funded under this program. SGP-HD aims to promote human dimensions research focused on theme IV, Human Dimensions and Policy Implications, of the IAI Science Agenda and is built on the interdisciplinary networks created in CRN II. The program is expected to develop strong human dimensions research in conjunction with the projects under CRN II by integrating natural and social sciences. Past Programs (1996-2007)
2005- 2007 Training Institute Seed Grant (TISG) Program associated with IAI Training Institutes 2005: 8 Grants were awarded under this program. TISG was launched as an assessment activity of the Training Institutes 2005 and was designed to encourage network building and multinational and multidisciplinary collaboration. TISG-Jamaica or TISG-Paraguay. 2003 - 2006 Small Grant Program II (SGP II): The SGP II was the implementation of the second round of SGPs. As the previous program, SGP II was intended to support research/capacity building/planning activities that would facilitate the development of larger Science Programs and Research Networks similar to the IAI Collaborative Research Network Program in the near-term. 1999 - 2006 Collaborative Research Network Program I (CRN I): Effectively addressing regional global change issues requires the development of an active scientific network that crosses international boundaries. The CRN program was created with the idea of helping develop networks of scientists and scientific institutions working together in an integrated fashion on a common global change issue of regional importance. 14 projects were funded under this program, administered by the IAI Directorate. Click here to access project homepages. 2002 - 2004 Small Grant Program I (SGP I): This program was intended to support small research/capacity building/planning activities that in the future would facilitate the development of larger Science Programs and Research Networks. It also provided the opportunity of assembling scientists and decision makers into activities aiming at the integration of scientific knowledge applied in the decision making processes of global environmental problems of regional relevance. 1998 - 2004 Initial Science Program (ISP): The ISP was a program to augment on-going scientific activities in research, training and education, data and information collection, climate modeling as well as a limited number of workshops. 39 projects were funded under the ISP with a duration of up to three years. The ISP Projects were administered by the IAI Directorate. ISP I (1996 - 1999) or ISP II (1997 - 2000) or ISP III (1998 - 2004). 2000 - 2003 Program to Expand Scientific Capacity in the Americas (PESCA): PESCA was a program to enable scientists of member countries having low participation in IAI programs and activities to link with projects that were funded under the ISP III and the CRN I. 1996 - 1997 Start-up Grants Program (SG): The SG program provided funding exclusively for planning activities for one year. It was designed specifically to allow researchers to come together to write proposals to the CRN Program (see above). The SG was administered by the United States National Science Foundation. 37 projects were supported under this program. Director´s Special Fund: The IAI Directorate has some limited funds to support scientific activities (small research projects, workshops, training activities, travel support etc). |
