The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), the International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean(ISDR), the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), the Regional Center for Disaster Information for Latin American and the Caribbean (CRID), the National Environmental Authority of Panama (ANAM) and the General Secretariat of the Latin American School of Social Sciences (FLACSO) held the

“Meeting on climate-related variability, change, risk and management”
19 – 23 November 2006
and the “Forum: Science and policy in the management of climate-related risks”
24 November 2006

These activities were cosponsored by the US National Science Foundation (NSF).

Objectives

The main objective of the meeting was to contribute to improve the management of risks associated with climate related threats, their variability and change, through promoting multidisciplinary interactions, integration, communication and synergies among key stakeholders (researchers, decision makers, institutions, etc.) that are involved in the management process, taking as a basis the lessons learned in the framework of the IAI Collaborative Research Network Program (CRN I) and the meeting participants.

The Forum aimed at fostering dialogue and interactions between the scientific community and decision-makers as well as the use of scientific information in the policy making process.
