Abstract

Livelihoods Strategies are used as a theoreti-cal-methodological framework to study the frontier and rural-urban relations at the Bra-zilian Amazon. It is done through a compar-ison  between  the  municipalities  of  Altamira (PA) and Machadinho d'Oeste (RO), bothborn over the frontier expansion, using a La-tent Class Model (LCM) to access the liveli-hoods strategies. Results show a frontier char-acterized by a more regional dynamics, with an intense urban life, highly connected to the rural ares.
