Research supported by the IAI unveils a monitoring platform that will identify Amazonian forest fires and hotspots

The open-access platform allows for the identification of forest fires in the Amazon occurring near rural properties and protected areas, the distance between these occurrences to schools and hospitals as well as the main access routes, such as roads and rivers, enabling them to reach the points of occurrence. The project is developed by Dr. Liana Anderson from Brazilian Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alert (CEMADEN) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and Communications and the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE), in partnership with the Federal University of Acre (UFAC), Woods Hole Research Center, State of Acre Environment Agency, among other partners.
