Women in Science Dialogue Highlights Female Excellence in Scientific Research

The dialogue "Women in Science," organized by SETAC LA (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry of Latin America), will take place on Wednesday, September 20th, from 11:00 to 12:30 in the CoWork space of the LATU Technological Park.

The objective of this event is to promote the exchange of ideas on the various dimensions of science generated by and for women. In a flexible and interactive format, the dialogue will offer four brief complementary presentations that will address observations, challenges, and difficulties shared by the participating female scientists in relation to science from a gender perspective.

The dialogue "Science by Women for Women" will feature the distinguished participation of Dr. Anna Stewart-Ibarra, Executive Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), who will address the implementation of equity, diversity, and inclusion policies in global change science and the importance of a gender perspective in this field.

In addition, the program includes presentations that will cover a wide range of topics related to science and gender:

Dr. Paola Scavone (Uruguay), a biochemist and microbiologist from the Clemente Estable Biological Research Institute, will explore the biological and cultural differences between women and men in health research, with a focus on urinary tract infections.

Dr. Helena de Assis (Brazil) will provide an overview of the challenges and achievements of Latin American women in science.

Mag. Alicia Migliaro (Uruguay), from the Faculty of Psychology at UdelaR, will present ecofeminism and its relationship with science and technology, focusing on gender inequalities in agroecology in Uruguay.

The event will conclude with a moderated discussion led by Solana González and Carla Kruk, where the audience will be encouraged to express their ideas and perceptions about science generated by and for women.

This dialogue is a unique opportunity to celebrate and learn from female scientists and science practitioners in the region and to join the creation of a community committed to promoting gender equality in scientific research.
