World Science Day for Peace and Development: Building Trust in Science

World Science Day for Peace and Development marks the beginning of a week focusing on scientific and academic exchange, along with the promotion of peace, that is celebrated globally. It is an opportunity to recognize and promote the nexus between scientific progress and the upholding of peace and security in society as a whole, so that the discussions are accessible to all.

In accordance with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) resolution, this day is celebrated every November 10. This year's theme is "Building Trust in Science", which refers to one of the most considerable challenges of recent times: the relativization of science. The objective is to highlight the importance of trust in the scientific method and its results for evidence-based public policy formulation and its support by the general public. The premise is that the development of our societies and the well-being of the global population depend on the solution of the different global and regional challenges facing the planet.

The popularization of science and the communication or popularization of science adapted to the audience and open science play a fundamental role. The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) seeks to popularize science to broaden its reach, and that scientists also develop communication skills. For this reason, it has made available to the community for free a Science Communication course and an open database of scientific publications and has created a Science Diplomacy Center.
