Round Table of the Canadian Embassy in Uruguay on International Trade

Objectives

To inform about Canada’s progressive trade agenda
To of key local organizations in relation to the local trade environment and the opportunities for women, young people and SMEs for international trade.

The context

The round table will be held in honor to the visit of the Hon. International Trade Minister, François Philippe Champagne.

The meeting will consist of a round table with Uruguayan representatives from the civil society and investment promotion agencies, who will inform on the level of inclusion in Uruguayan economics.

Discussions will involve the academia, business leader women and experts in corporate social responsibility and will revolve around the challenges the region faces in establishing investment promotion frameworks towards inclusive societies and sustainable development.

Host of the event will be Ambassador Joanne Frappier and Federico Burone, Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean of the International Development Research Center (IDRC). Mr. Burone will introduce the panelists and will invite them to answer specific questions such as:

How do international trade and competitiveness affect education systems and the opportunities to advance gender equality?
What have we learned in the past years about the differential impacts of trade dynamics on social cohesion within nations?
How does the private sector in Uruguay address international trade in the context of participation in regional economic blocs such as Mercosur in the Uruguayan inclusion agenda?
