Free course on health adaptation to climate change in the Americas

Free course on health adaptation to climate change in the Americas.

From September 25 to October 30, 2025, the Global Consortium for Climate and Health Education (GCCHE), WHO, PAHO, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research, EarthMedic & EarthNurse, and Health Canada will host a free virtual course consisting of 11 sessions

The program seeks to equip professionals and policymakers with the tools necessary to scale up adaptation, mitigation, and resilience in health systems in the face of climate change. The sessions will combine theory, case studies from the Americas, and discussions with experts, and links to additional resources will be shared.

Some of the topics that will be discussed include: adapting health systems to a changing climate; challenges of scaling up adaptations in health systems; approaches to scaling up health system adaptation; challenges of communicating scaling-up efforts; applications and gaps in current tools and guidelines.

The course will feature simultaneous interpretation in English, Spanish, and Portuguese; presentations will be translated into English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. The content is intended for health professionals, system and hospital planners, public officials, and personnel working in sustainability and emergencies.

Invited panelists include Rachel Lowe (Barcelona Supercomputing Center), Sheri Harper (University of Alberta, Canada), Donna Atkinson (National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health, Canada), Ana Diez Roux (Drexel University, United States), William Pan (Duke University, United States), Lealou Reballos (PAHO Barbados), Gilma Mantilla (Columbia University, United States), and Anna Torlaschi (Ministry of Health of Buenos Aires, Argentina).

To obtain the GCCHE certificate of participation, attendees must complete at least seven live sessions and pass a final exam. This space also prepares participants for international debates on health adaptation, such as those that will take place at COP30 and around the Global Adaptation Goal.
