The IAI joins GET 3.0 as a new key partner

As part of the establishment of its new headquarters in Panama, the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) participated on 23 April 2025 in GET 3.0 (Geospatial Enablement for Transformation), a national initiative that promotes the use of advanced geotechnologies as essential tools for urban planning, land management, and digital transformation at the municipal level.

The GET 3.0 event, designed by Esri Panama, Smart Cities LATAM, the International Center for Sustainable Development (Cides), and the Association of Municipalities of Panama (Amupa), brings together leaders from the public, private, academic, and international cooperation sectors to advance toward more resilient, sustainable, and smart cities.

This year, the meeting marked a milestone with the incorporation of the IAI as a new strategic ally. This participation reinforces the IAI's commitment to strengthening scientific and public policy capacities in the region, promoting integration between science, technology, and decision-making to address the challenges of global change.

“The incorporation of the IAI into the GET 3.0 platform reinforces the link between science, technology, and public policy, bringing together efforts from different sectors and disciplines to address climate and urban challenges with innovative and collaborative solutions,” Anna Stewart-Ibarra (Executive Director of the IAI).

During the event, local and international success stories were presented on the use of geographic information systems (GIS), real-time data visualization, and technological solutions for climate change adaptation. A high-level panel was also held with municipal authorities, representatives of the national government, experts from the IAI, Esri, and other cooperation agencies.

As an intergovernmental organization with 19 member countries, the IAI promotes collaborative transdisciplinary research on the impacts of global change. Its new headquarters in Panama will expand access to scientific knowledge, support evidence-based public policies, and strengthen local and regional capacities. In addition, the IAI hosts the Belmont Forum, an international alliance of funding agencies and scientific consortia that promote calls for proposals on topics such as climate change, biodiversity, water and food security, promoting open access to data and action-oriented science.

The GET 3.0 conference is thus consolidating its position as a strategic platform for regional cooperation, the exchange of best practices, and the deployment of geospatial technologies for sustainable urban development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
